County Solicitor B B Chamberlain announced the regular fall term of the circuit court grand jury will convene October 5 with about 150 cases on the docket, likely rising to 200. Two murder cases are listed and jail cases will be tried in the final weeks with other bond cases later.
A.P. Knox, vice president of the First National Bank, was found dead in a Mountain Brook cottage from a gunshot. Authorities said preliminary findings point to Fleming being the shooter. he had been in ill health and no motive was found. Sheriff’s deputies and the coroner investigated the scene and recovered personal papers from the car.
Examiner Cummings of the Interstate Commerce Commission met Mobile traffic officials to fix the hearing time for turpentine cup rates. The session moves to 9 oclock Monday as shippers and carriers plan to attend. The case concerns rates on Mobile produced cups shipped to the southeast, with local shippers arguing Jacksonville and Savannah enjoy lower costs.

George Harris of Cleveland Ohio was accidentally shot when a pistol fell from a shelf at the Dairy Lunch Room on North Royal Street. The 22 caliber bullet wounded him near the heart. he has left City Hospital and will continue his journey to Ohio later today after speaking with Mrs Katherine Bunyard wife of the proprietor.
Mobilians pushing for an extra legislative session to remove port terminal construction restrictions gained hope from Montgomery reports that Governor Brandon will call the session if a definite program on roads education and Mobile port can be agreed upon by the legislature and administration in the coming weeks. The governor spoke yesterday confirming this stance. Rumors suggest the session could occur in winter.
Nashville police increased guard around Davidson county jail amid rumors that Henry Horn, a Black man described as a masked marauder, assaulted more than 20 women in North Nashville. Officials denied a confession and said a statement may come before Monday’s grand jury, which has 75 witnesses summoned. Horn faces two housebreaking and larceny charges and three attempted criminal assault counts. detectives say evidence could yield at least fifty years in the penitentiary.

Milton Mills confessed to Walker county authorities in Jasper that he kidnapped the baby of Mrs. Lizzie Horton from a hospital on March 24. He also claimed to have left the child with a couple in Newport Arkansas and admitted stealing several automobiles from Memphis Birmingham Texarkana and Hot Springs. Mrs. Horton heads to Jasper to discuss the case with Mills before proceeding to Newport Arkansas where Mills reportedly said the child was left.
In Atlanta an apartment house gun battle left Leonard Langford dead and two others wounded. J B Waldrip says he shot in self defense after Langford fired first during a quarrel over whiskey. Two men and two women are being held for police investigation.
