An Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic freight train derailed at Parkwood, killing the fireman and a brakeman. Engineer Hardin was scalded and injured, with other crew members hurt. he is in critical condition at Bessemer hospital. First aid trains dispatched as telegraph and phone lines remain down.
Leonard Williamson aged 9 percent, son of Leslie Williamson of Bir mingham, was killed this afternoon after 1 o clock when struck by a truck driven by Ed Lowe of 667 State Street. The truck, owned by Ne Hudson, was moving north on Hamilton Street as the boy attempted to cross Penny Street. Lowe was arrested on a charge of Meni Slaughter with a $1,000 bond. investigation continues at police headquarters.
Benjamin F. Mosby a fireman died from injuries after a tunnel section collapsed at Church Hill Virginia. Up to 40 workers were trapped as rescue efforts with steam shovel and gas precautions continued to locate engineer Tom Mason and others unaccounted for while several escaped.
New York October 3. Miss Helen Wainwright, Olympic swimming ace and professional, signs to coach women swimmers and divers at Davis Islands Tampa during winter. Sponsor D P Davis offers about $6 000 for three months. She starts January first and plans to coach abroad next spring to attempt the English Channel.
Former Senator Chester I. Long of Wichita Kansas, president of the American Bar Association, told Missouri Bar Association members that the Tennessee anti evolution law appears an attempt to control opinion and restrict learning and that it would likely be declared unconstitutional. He questioned whether the state has power to control opinion.
Omaha, Oct 3. National Commander of the American Legion says no political questions will be raised at the convention sessions next week. He expects the gathering to be free of dry and wet issue debates during proceedings.
St Louis Oct 3. Miss Emma Bacon 30 a nurse at the Chicago tuberculosis institute was found choked to death in Dalton a Chicago suburb. Police believe she was waylaid on her way home last night in an attack.
Generally fair tonight and Sunday with light winds. Week outlook shows fair to warm early week, with cooler spell late week. South Atlantic East Gulf states expect fair conditions with possible showers midweek and above normal temperatures. West Gulf states mostly fair with a chance of showers, cooler conditions in the latter part of the period.
A mail plane flying from New York to Chicago vanished after passing Hartleton Pennsylvania. More than 100 men scoured the Allegheny and Susquehanna valley area in thick fog hoping for a sighting or clues to the pilot Ames while weather kept airliners grounded in Cleveland. Authorities fear a night forced landing in the mountains could be fatal.
Frederick I. Thompson of Alabama resigned today as a member of the shipping board effective November 1. President Coolidge accepted the resignation.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union, with forty nations, set aside a League of Nations resolution and advanced plans for the international court of justice. Elihu Root urged immediate steps to codify and expand international law, asking for a general conference to define rules for global conduct. Root did not specify who should call such a conference.
Mrs Theo dore Roosevelt and Mrs Kermit Roosevelt plan to join their husbands in India for a tiger hunting expedition. Mrs Kermit Roosevelt sails today aboard the Leviathan and Mrs Theodore Roosevelt will follow with a full hunting outfit. A native runner will escort the party to Kashmir while others stay in London and Oyster Bay.
Wil Nan B. Cole the Rockingham cotton mill owner faced cross examination after telling how he lost control and killed William Ormond, the daughter’s suitor. He said his threats to Ormond were a bluff to force the man away, and he admitted fearing retaliation after a harsh letter.
Mrs Nelie Dawson Wright, widow of bank robber Bill Wright who was killed in a Mobile police ambush at the Louisville and Nashville depot last winter, married Leslie J. Weisner of Donaldsonville Louisiana yesterday. Wright robbed a bank, secured 10000 dollars, killed a policeman, then fled.
Special Officer Prendergast of the New Orleans immigration department arrived in Mobile to take Marcial Flores a Mexican crew member of the British steamer Mexico Trader to New Orleans Flores allegedly deserted the Yuma in New Orleans and later went to Frontera on the Mexico Trader Immigration officials pursue Flores to face inspection and removal actions.
Capt. Thomas J. Ford recently named as delegate from the Samar Yes post of the American Legion will leave tonight to attend the national convention in Omaha. He will join a rally of former Chicago Zouaves, of which he was a member.

J E Lorenzo was fined twenty five dollars for speeding on St Francis street, with testimony from motorcycle officer Quimby Welch.
Willie Pry bound over on a federal charge after arraignment before United States Commissioner J S Burgett on a preliminary hearing. A second man Walter Alexander held on $1000 bond. James Crare discharged. Pryor previously held on a ten year sentence and free on $6000 appeal bond. Officers led by O D Beard and W O Robbins Jr seized the automobile containing liquor alongside Pryor’s car. Tom Cleveland Henry Richardson Eddie Richardson and Luther Long charged with conspiracy with $1000 bonds.
The coast guard cutter Tallapoosa has entered Todd Drydock and Shipbuilding Company for general repairs after a recent Atlantic coast cruise. Repairs are expected to take about 15 days in the shipyard.
Department of justice agents said they expected a deportation order for Norman Klein held in Tampa on charges tied to an alleged plot to kill President Coolidge and other capitalists. Klein denied the charges at yesterday's hearing.

Terry Druggan and Frankie Lake, once jailed in Chicago, were moved to Sycamore to begin contempt sentence outcomes. Two federal deputies were discharged after an alleged drinking incident during the transfer, with other officials amid a widening inquiry into past jail liberties.

Thomas Parker aged 26 of near Bay Minette is in Mobile hospital in a very serious condition after a pistol shot wound through his abdomen. The wound occurred yesterday at Miss Mary Heaton’s country home during target practice when the gun she held discharged accidentally. Parker was operated on last night and his recovery remains doubtful.
R D Jordann division engineer of the state highway department inspected the Mobile Theodore road project in Mobile and Washington counties. He reported that construction on the Dwight through Washington county to the Mississippi state line will begin immediately with C L Strange of the location department.
The American steamer West Hika of the Mobile Oceanic Line arrives in Mobile with seven hundred crates of asbestos shingles and 100 bags of vetch seed from Antwerp. The West Hika will discharge here and load cargo for the United Kingdom.
Summer weather will continue in Mobile tonight and Sunday with generally fair skies and little change in temperatures. Forecasters expect near steady thermomet er readings across the two days.

Mrs M Gormley of 168 Monroe Street reported a box of children's clothing was stolen from her home yesterday. Police are investigating. B C Godwin of 118 Government Street reported the loss of a handbag containing valuables from his home yesterday.
A September report from the docks office records eighty vessels reaching Mobile including steamers barges and schooners. Net tonnage totaled 149 289 with inward moves of 53 foreign bound steamships 12 steamers 7 schooners and 7 other vessels.
Police recovered an automobile stolen from Joachim street between Dauphin and nearby area. The car, claimed as the property of R. D. Smile, was found by Birmingham police based on a telegram from headquarters. No suspect identified in the telegram.
