Convict Farm Probe In Arkansas Over Beating Death
Investigations underway in St. Francis and Cross counties into the death of a negro convict at the farm near here. Coroner's jury found he was beaten with a lash before dying, prompting arrest warrants and possible charges for other inmates. Judge Nelson called the farm conditions deplorable and ordered an end to county prisoner leasing. Trial for Whitted pending further inquiries and potential additional arrests.
