In Chicago an inquest into Tribune police reporter Alfred Lingle’s murder adjourned as authorities pursue clues. A Brooklyn arrival is identified as the killer, with a clothing room, a serdes gun, a German Luger pistol and a silenced weapon found nearby.
A joint application filed with the State utilities commission seeks authority to merge The Ohio Edison Company Northern Ohio Power and Light Company Pennsylvania Ohio Power and Light Company Akron Steam Heating Company and London Light and Power Company. If approved Commonwealth and Southern Corporation would provide 15 million dollars in new capital for 600000 additional shares of common stock.
Officer Harold Mann III was moved from the West Caddoa to the liner George Washington after dawn as Captain Randall relayed the transfer and illness status. The West Caddoa, returning to New Orleans from Manchester, is due in New York Friday.
Walter Hix, 20 year old substitute mail carrier, was found guilty of second degree murder in Jasper Tennessee for the April 23 killing of P. F. Wilson near Palos Bar. Wilson, a truck driver for a road contractor, was shot after a dispute over road right of way when Hix halted his car in the roadway. He received a 20 year penitentiary sentence.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee considered a resolution asserting its right to secret papers on the London naval parley. Senator Black of Alabama originated the proposal and a subcommittee was tasked to redraft. Chairman Borah predicted approval after lengthy discussion, with Borah Moses and Black named to lead the rewrite. The debate continues over Hoover administration access to state papers.
Sen James E Watson of Indiana urged swift final passage of the tariff bill, claiming benefits for both agriculture and industry. He warned western opposition would harm agricultural welfare as rates favored farm interests. Senate action on the measure was anticipated by Thursday amid naval arms pact document debates. Borah noted no challenge to administration access to state department records.
Walter P. Andrews of Atlanta long known as Colonel Andrews was named a Kentucky colonel by Governor Sampson at the state Elks convention in Ashland. He joins the governor on his staff and was invited to sit in the gubernatorial box at the 1961 Kentucky Derby.
Mississippi voters headed to the polls for a special primary to narrow a field of eleven candidates for the highway commissions overseeing an 88 million dollar road program. The vote selects two members for each district with a June 24 runoffs to pick three final appointees.

In Miami, Circuit Judge Paul D. Barnes resumes the Florida nuisance law petition to padlock Al Capone's Palm Island estate. More than 50 witnesses have been called, with Capone subpoenaed by the state as testimony continues.
Nathan Grebstein released by the Florida Supreme Court after one month in jail for contempt linked to the Miami Beach estate padlock suit against Al Capone. Justice Rivers Buford ruled Judge Barnes erred by not specifying a definite sentence, noting Grebstein had already served 31 days and was punished sufficiently.
Harry Drysdale and Jack Gilmore qualified Tuesday as candidates for the Democratic executive committee from the third ward.

In Modoc county a manhunt for Rodney Selby 35 for the slaying of Federal Prohibition Agent Albert L. Brown and wounding Agent Robert Davis after a station arrest in Indian Springs. Selby fled after the shooting and is believed to hide in rugged country northeast of Indian Springs. Davis, wounded, drove Brown’s body to safety before dying en route.
Madame Maryse Bastie, a noted aerial acrobat, pushes to regain the world record in an airplane endurance flight from Le Bourget France. She began at 8 18 p m with a 40 hour fuel supply and aims to fly until noon tomorrow to surpass Milo Bernstein's 35 46 55.
A fire swept the residence of M. J. Lawler, Sr., at 956 Springhill Avenue Tuesday morning. The blaze, likely started by a defective wire, nearly destroyed the roof while several fire trucks fought the flames.
Expansion of the Weather Bureau in Mobile to add two staff for 24 hour forecasting. Mobile will be one of 20 bureaus broadcasting three hour interval reports by telegraph for aviation. Central bureaus to be in Atlanta and Dallas with reports sent at 1 4 7 and 10 am and pm.
A joint Mobile Chamber of Commerce meeting of the tourist and convention committee led by H A Bruner and the rodeo committee led by L Adama agreed to cooperate fully to ensure the August events succeed. It will be Alabama waters' second rodeo, following last year's successful event that drew many sportsmen.
President Hoover welcomed the move to create a new five member federal power commission to administer the water power act. He said the independent body would relieve cabinet members from overburdened duties currently handling power laws and government relations with power companies. Congress recently passed a bill for an independent commission. senate approval was anticipated.

Mobile police investigated a liquor seizure from two Monday night raids. Detectives Burch and Bornstein reported finding 11 13 gallons of whiskey in a vacant house on Ams Street and in a nearby vacant field near Brazil Street Cuba Street. No arrests were made.
Congressman George M. Pritchard of Asheville will be the Republican nominee to face Josiah W. Bailey in the fall. Unofficial returns from 1,275 of 1,700 precincts show a 7,452 vote lead for Pritchard in Saturdays primary. Remaining precincts are from counties with small GOP support and may favor Pritchard.
Six men were rescued and one is believed lost when a tug named Vader towing a car float toward a Staten Island freight yard swamped in high seas. Waterfront workers blamed a breaking line between tug and barge as the vessel struggled toward New Brigton during the storm.
Harold H. Schroeder a Mobile businessman linked to the Indianapolis torch murder case was traced to Meridian Mississippi after leaving Mobile for the 5300 mile Indianapolis race. Police say Mrs Schroeder knows little of his movements and a telegram from him reached Meridian. Sheriff Winkler may return to Mobile as investigators pursue arson indictments.
Mobile police and county officers search for two white men who severely beat T. G. and G. B. Whatley, steel workers from Magazine Point, found injured on Owens Lane between Creighton and Toulminville. Victims identified assailants and planned to press assault to murder warrants.
Commerce department reported for the first four months of 1980 foreign trade to Russia rose to 54.39 million dollars, while imports from Russia increased to 6.99 million. Overall foreign sales reached 1.461 billion, with the United Kingdom at 243.56 million and Canada at 242.26 million, both down from the prior year.
Pat Collins, member of the Mobile county Democratic executive committee from the first ward, filed his qualifications with Acting Secretary T. B. Allman. Thomas E. Smith qualified as candidate for the board of revenue from the first district.
The Mobile and Ohio railroad says a mistake occurred in advertising a lower coke rate from Holt to Pensacola for port shipment. The railroad notified the Mobile Chamber of Commerce publication and stated the rate would be adjusted to align with the correct tariff.
Ebbis Rogers aged 44 Calvin aged 17 and Bennie Lane aged 21 were held at the county jail on assault and battery charges following an incident. Darcy Richardson is listed as a complainant.
