Fourteen aliens were locked in Mobile county jail for safekeeping from the Italian steamer Northern Wave. Ship owners face bonds totaling $70,000 for delivering men at a port in France. This marks the largest mass of this prisoner class ever held in the county jail.
Albert Freeland Jr county commissioner for the Third district will not receive salary while the court of appeals considers his entitlement. The $125 monthly pay is held by the county treasurer, with lower courts having sided with Freeland as rightful representative. The Cleveland case has progressed through multiple courts and led to Camp Kilby for a 15 year sentence. In addition, the Los Angeles dirigible returned to Lakehurst after Bermuda voyage carrying mail, with Captain George W. Steele noting favorable handling despite headwinds and rough weather.
In New Orleans on April 24 three armed men attempted to rob grocery owner Levy Levy. He fired when challenged and was wounded twice in the abdomen. The attackers fled. Levy was hospitalized and police report a $500 cash seizure claim and a $30 reward offered for information.
The Mobile Police Relief Association holds its tenth annual ball tonight at the Adams Motor Company auditorium, opening at 8:30. Mayor Hartwell delivers the opening address and Judge Williams chairs the floor committee, with two bands and prize dances planned for the event.
Gilmore taxi driver pleaded not guilty in recorder's court before Judge Edington and waived examination to the grand jury. Bail set at 760 dollars. Alleged to have attacked J. M. O'Donnell at Government Street, biting part of the ear. incident occurred Tuesday night at St. Louis and Cedar streets. Gilmore previously faced a disorderly charge with F. H. The United States coast guard cutter Tallapoosa was fumigated this morning before its departure tomorrow for New York where it will be stationed. Officers and crew remained ashore during fumigation and await orders on the time of assignment to New York.

The Mobile Register reports the state contest for the national mielee title is tonight with City of Mobile as host. Grove Hill’s Robert Lée leads the field while Dickinson, named best speaker at Mobile district, travels to Birmingham as Alabama district representatives compete for top prizes and a chance to advance to Nashville in May.

The quarantine tug Von Erdorf returned from Fort Morgan yesterday evening with Dr. Carl Michel and a party of Mobilians to enjoy a fishing trip. The group included Mr. and Mrs. J. C. O'Gwynes and Dr. J. Coryell. The party departed Mobile early yesterday.
The Grace Lutheran primary grades will hold an in house social at ten o clock to raise a fund for chairs and tables. A program will be presented and a free will offering will be taken.

Speer reported, recommending a greens and fairways watering system, with directors John T. Cochran F Taylor Perk R I Speer F M Stevens C W Hempstead William Kirtland R W Ogburn W B Paterson Mark Lyons J J MacMahon and J P Courtney among those named.
Henry Johnson reported to Sheriff Leon Schwarz that he was held up and robbed by a negro while delivering ice on Fulton road near Steiner place at 9:45 this morning. Deputy Bernstein investigated and found little trace of the highwayman. Johnson said the bandit followed him, demanded a dollar, then snatched his money bag and disrobed him slightly during the theft.
In circuit court today Francis Cazalas faced manufacturing prohibited liquor and possession of a still charges and Dave Patton faced a statutory offense. both cases were withdrawn and filed on motion by the state. Slim Woolsey’s case for violation of the prohibition law was nolle prosequi.
The recorder fined two men $100 each for violating the prohibition law and found evidence of possession of prohibited goods. Willie Coth Conway and A G Wash faced similar charges and were each sentenced to either $50 or 50 days.
The L and N railroad will implement a reduced fare of one dollar and 25 cents to New Orleans and Gulf Coast resorts starting Sunday May 3. Tickets go on sale Saturday mornings and are valid until Monday morning.
Ras Crenshaw owner of the yacht Acacia, after nearly two months of typhoid fever, visited Mobile today to see friends and seek care. He reports slow recovery and expects to operate the vessel by early next month.
Jesus Perez operating a Davis Avenue store pleaded guilty in federal court to violating the rerail game law by selling a mallard duck. Federal Game Warden W. Hy Hottman was the official who investigated the case.
Sofia April 24 Gen Roussef interior minister said in a press briefing that total arrests in the national campaign against terrorists since its start did not exceed 1500. He claimed the unrest attracted funds and arms from Moscow and insisted Bulgaria sought peace but faced forced combat with communism.

Atlanta April 24 The influx of fifty new prisoners from Cincinnati for bootlegging may force converting bath and storage rooms into cells. Warden John Snogh said the federal prison, now housing about 1 200 more inmates than its design allows, could need to shelter the additional inmates when they arrive next Tuesday. The total population at the penitentiary stands over 3,000.
