Arbitration Not Offered Says Striking Mobile Workers

After a near thirty day strike the executive committee of machinists boilermakers and shipworkers asserts they never refused mediation from the Chamber of Commerce and Business League. Chamber President Armbrecht counters that employers were the sole party to respond to arbitration offers. The chamber resolution offers to mediate or arbitrate if both sides agree, with a meeting led by the president to discuss scope and method. The workers’ chairman Walter Webster lists six points insisting on fair hours and union rights, mediations accepted, willingness to submit to a fair tribunal, and calls for arbitration to end the dispute, noting local loyalties and economic pressures.
