Mr Irvine and J M Bain withdraw from the Demonstration Plantation Creamery project in Mobile county. Bain of Pittsburgh says the firm will not finance the venture and Irvine calls the creamery plan dead. The loss of Pittsburgh financing ends the organized effort despite farmers' cows pledging production.
The Item received a telegram from J. M. Bain president stating the Cham ber of Commerce in Mobile is canceling obligations after opposing a creamery proposal. The message says the company will no longer furnish cows, separators, or other facilities to local farmers due to the chamber’s action.
The Pittsburgh interests withdrew prior to a Chamber of Commerce session led by Mr. John C. O'Connell. The note appears as a continuation from page two.
In recorder's court testimony Police Officer Larry Murray described Eddie Mays a Black man refusing to participate in the longshoremen parade. Paraders attacked him and he sought shelter in a Lawrence and St Louis grocery. A brickbat incident followed as marshals worked to restore order. Mays had a witness and was discharged.
Major Roberts arrives to inspect the local cavalry troop forming part of the First Alabama veteran regiment. Captain Thomas Arts leads the inspection with Adjutant General G J Hubbard and Lt Col Bibd aves present. Headquarters set at the Cawthon Hotel. 74 men accounted. officers elected: Howard Gaillard captain E J Grove first lieutenant and T D Nettles Jr second lieutenant.
Chicago reports a seven bishops seven pastors and seven lay members Protestant Episcopal church panel proposes removing the word obey from the marriage rite. The group will present changes to the general convention in St Louis on October 11.
Spring Hill College prepares for Friday classes as 40 students are on campus with 40 more expected by late afternoon and Wednesday morning. Father Cummings returns from New Orleans Thursday to swell enrollment. New students from New Orleans arrive at 12 48 p m with a brass band. First football practice on Maxon field Thursday afternoon includes a general scrimmage led by Captain O Dowd.
Dan Malone and Leslie Dyles, both colored, were arrested Thursday morning by Sheriff W H Holcombe in connection with the killing of Wash Dyles on Old Shell road near Kenneth street. Dyles was shot in his home. bloodhounds failed to follow the trail. An inquest will be held Tuesday afternoon by Coroner G H Thomas.
City Attorney R H Smith issued an opinion saying a bondsman cannot be relieved without cause. Henry M Buerzer sought release as surety for Frederick Gaston a local plumber. the commission took no action. An estimate of 75213 for wharf reconstruction was approved for Ett Muth Construction Company. The session lasted about fifteen minutes with minimal business.
The Tourist Welcome Club released a practical directory listing contributing members and city business houses. It includes information on railroad facilities schedules and data on all car lines operating in the city and suburbs.
Sally Kelson, described as a negro woman, was sentenced to sixty days in county jail by Recorder Edington on petit larceny charges. Detective Levine Bauer testified she stole a pair of silk hose from Reils Mercantile Company and a middy blouse and a combination suit from Kress Store.
Drastic amendments to the revenue bill strike at the allied blacklist and British mail interferences and would create a non inter course act according to reports. If enacted the changes would permit use of army and navy to enforce against discriminating vessels and could prompt allied protests though the president would sign into law.
The senate adopted an amendment empowering the president to withhold clearance from vessels that discriminate against American shippers and to deny privileges to ships from nations that mistreat American ships. It also authorizes use of army and navy to prevent offending vessels from leaving U.S. ports during a war in which the United States is not engaged. Continued on Page Five.
In Chicago heavy buying by large houses pushed wheat up sharply with September delivery at 1.51 1 2 as traders cited harvest crop fears. An expert warned domestic spring crop conditions at harvest were the worst on record and 1916 United States crop shortfalls left little for export.

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Boston Braves 2 to 1 in the first game of a double header. Boston scored early but Phils rallied in the sixth, matching a first inning run, while pitchers Alexander Ragan and Killifer held the Braves to seven hits.
Twelve bandits were captured by government troops and hanged to telegraph poles after a failed robbery of a passenger train on the Mexican National Lines at Gonzales Junction near San Luis Potosi. The incident left several outlaws dead as soldiers aboard the train repelled the attack.

Dolph Russell reported a burglary at his home on Monday. An unknown burglar entered the residence at 254 North Scott Street and took a 38 Colt revolver.
Washington September 5 ride were opened at the navy department for thirty hydro aeroplanes for the aviation school at Pensacola. Many concerns offered bids but only a few of the larger firms are estimated to bid on the entire lot. Officials said they would be unable to award the contract within a week. To encourage all concerns manufacturing flying machines it was estimated the department would divide the awards among firms whose bids were acceptable.
A special Russell county grand jury will convene next week to resume inquiries into Girard liquor violations. Attorney General Martin has not disclosed details of the investigation, while Assistant AG Perry Turner prepared in Girard and Columbus, Ga., for another grand jury and circuit court session.
Washington September 3. Representative Hubert Dent of Montgomery Alabama was elected chairman of the house military affairs committee succeeding Representative Hay of Virginia who resigns to become judge of the federal court of claims. Hay's resignation takes effect September 20. Dent was nominated by Representative Kitchin and is next in rank on the committee.

Berlin reports the Somme front remains contested as Germans reinforce a 18 mile river segment while British forces push 1600 yards east of Guillémont and seize wood. From Petrograd dated September 5 the war office reports Russians and Bulgarians fighting in eastern Romania. The first clash occurred yesterday as Bulgarian cavalry outposts were attacked by Russian cavalry during the invasion in support of Romania.
Russian forces in the upper Sereth Volynhia region from Thursday to Saturday seized 115 Teuton officers and 4614 men. They also took six cannons 35 machine guns and four mine throwers, per today’s official Russian statement from Petrograd via London.
