The headless body of Miss Sophia McCallin daughter of former mayor William C McCallin was found on Pennsylvania Railroad tracks at Roup station within city limits. Albany Georgia October 28. Sessions of the fourteenth annual convention of the National Nut Growers Association opened with delegates from across the country. President W H Nutt stated in his address that prospects look bright for the nut growing industry in the United States. Delegates and visitors will tour pecan groves in the area.
At night admission is 25 cents and the fair grounds offer meals at reasonable prices served by mobile vendors. The text suggests affordable options for attendees at the fair event.
Old Spanish Trail Association executives discussed a scout car to inspect and log the Mobile Jacksonville routes. The plan calls for one car with an experienced automobilist and advance agent to prepare records and publicize the Mobile convention December 10 11.
The city court ruled the Henley bond forfeited and ordered bondsmen Cobo Nichols and John M. Wilson to pay 106 dollars after J. H. Thomas Brannan of Witmer Mobile County was appointed jury commissioner succeeding H W Fowler who moves to the Mobile County Board of Equalization.
World War I dispatches describe Bulgarian forces retreating from Uskub while Serbs defend positions in fierce fighting along the Veles Komanovo front. Reports from Athens and Paris note shifting fronts and Allied hopes as German Bulgarian efforts threaten to cut lines toward Constantinople.

Theresa McBroom twenty year old widow is tried in city court on a murder charge. Her defense pleads insanity citing her husband’s conduct and self defense. The state contends the act was cold blooded and premeditated with two prior threats. A jury of 12 drawn from 67 names includes Nichols Cato Weldy Dykes Lomax OConnor Turner Sims and others.
Three men from Alabama's Second district are mentioned as possible challengers to Congressman H. Dent. George J. Smith of Luverne, M. H. Screws of Montgomery, and L. H. Brassell of Andalusia are named as likely contenders with Screws urged to run and Brassell claiming crossover county support. Dent plans a district tour while parolee Robert L. Sears gains release under good conduct terms. A January 18 bond issue election for 1.6 million dollars to pay state obligations is set to be proclaimed with polling posters prepared.
Wilmer leads a close Gulf Coast Fair contest to take first prize in the community exhibit. Foley is second, Wiggins third, and Fairhope fourth as Clarke county claims the grand prize of 300 dollars. Judge Henry Chamberlain fined Edward Shamburger 2.50 or five days in jail for contempt of court after he failed to appear in court on a Monday assault case. His wife, who refused to prosecute, was sent to jail for the costs.
The American Manufacturers' Export Association adopted resolutions favoring amending the La Follette seaman's act and appointing a shipping board to submit a plan to Congress for rebuilding the American merchant marine. About 150 members, representing half of U S export business, attended.
