Amendment 10 Tariff Bill From High Up
Washington May 10 An amendment to the tariff bill would authorize the secretary of the treasury to proclaim values of imported goods for ad valorem tariff duties. Leaders Simons and Underwood with McReynolds and McAdoo favor the change saying it reduces litigation and aids ad valorem operation. Another proposal would bar contingent fee appeals from appraised valuations, with a $1 protest fee already in the bill reducing customs litigation by about fifty percent.
