German Raider Greif Sunk. Alcantara Also Lost
In the North Sea on February 29 a German raider the Greif and a British armed merchantman the Alcantara met and were sunk. A torpedo sank the Alcantara while gunfire destroyed the Greif. Of 300 Germans five officers and 115 men were saved and the British loss was 74. The Alcantara belonged to the Royal Mail Packet Company of Belfast with 15300 gross tons.

Excursion Steamer Delayed By Storm
About 150 passengers on the bay steamer Pleasure Bay endured a tropical storm on a Daphne trip with seasickness and rough seas. The vessel returned after 10 PM to Mobile, via Battles, with precautions to prevent listing as water and ice were shifted.
