German fleet activity reported in North Sea by Dutch observers

Dutch correspondents describe a German fleet of about fifty ships from dreadnoughts to torpedo boats in the North Sea escorted by two Zeppelins. Sightings placed the force 165 miles west of the Elbe mouth and 35 miles northwest of Ymuiden while ships remained painted war gray and veiled by smoke.

Villa Band Attacks Columbus New Mexico Killing Soldiers

Five hundred Mexican bandits believed led by Francisco Villa crossed the border and attacked Columbus New Mexico. Dozens of Americans were killed or wounded including seven U S soldiers as Villa's force engaged U S troops pursuing them toward the border. The raid left many Mexican dead, with Villa and his unit reportedly directing the assault and a number of Americans missing or killed.
