Mobile women organize committees to sell 15 000 buttons bearing the inscription Be An American. The plan aims to collect funds by selling at five cents each with no limit per buyer as officers finalize arrangements before Button Day.
Officials expect about 500 local women to recruit and field 12 400 marchers with 3 000 visitors invited to Mobile for the July 4 parade. The committee anticipates 9 000 men plus 3 400 women and children, totaling over 15 000 people in line.
A 350 foot long American flag arrives in Mobile by Southern Express and will be carried by the Mobile Lodge Elks in the July 4 Preparedness Parade. Visiting Elks are invited to join, assembling at 8:30 AM at the Elks home. Commercial travelers’ participation plans are set for Saturday night at the Cawthon Hotel. A new double daily mail service between Mobile and Baldwin County starts tomorrow. The lowest bidders were H. A., C. A., and A. O. Hiscock of Palatka Florida. Mail will be delivered twice daily except Sunday when there is one delivery.
