At the Coliseum in St. Louis the Democratic national convention amended its rules to nominate both president and vice president tonight, delaying tomorrow's session. Addressing foreign policy, Senator James praised President Wilson, with demonstrations lasting 18 minutes as the party urged peace through diplomacy.
The convention erupted in an eighteen minute roar of marching and flag waving after James praised the president in Germany negotiations. William J. Bryan, seated in the press section, joined the cheers but left before a possible speech. Jerry C. Smith from Arkansas warned he would raise a point of order if Bryan sought consent to speak.
By unanimous vote the Democratic convention rules committee recommended nominations for president and vice president begin at 8 o'clock tonight. Chairman William A. Glasgow Jr. of Pennsylvania urged the move arguing delegates cannot be kept later and late nominations would look bad with empty seats. He noted the New York delegation would depart tonight regardless of timing.
Massachusetts delegate Charles B Strecker opposes a program change over a $100000 bonus from St Louis business leaders to keep delegates in place. The plan gains support after key figures including Alva B Adams and Secretary Daniels back hurried nominations and revised rules for the nominating speeches.
Leinkauf School will open this fall with a compulsory physical culture course two periods weekly. Colonel F M Maddox agreed to have a military expert train the boys, and Miss Austin will direct the girls. Absences allowed only for physical disability. board officials cite modern systems as justification.
Eight young ladies will receive diplomas at the Convent of Visitation exercises this afternoon with Rev. E C dela Moriniere delivering the address and conferring honors. A large crowd is expected to attend the program features vocal and instrumental music by convent students. Four graduates reside locally and four come from nearby states. Names include Elise McAuley, Lyliane Dreaper, Dorothy Wise, Consuelo Abaunza, Eulatie Johnson, Elizabeth Neeley, Nettie Nichols and Nellie Potter. The program features a string quartet, piano solos by Wise and Abaunza, choral numbers, and the address by Rev. dela Moriniere.
The forecast warns of probable thunder showers tonight and Friday with little temperature change and moderate winds. Yesterday’s heat peaked near ninety in town, while Phoenix hit 108 as a hotter area pulled the weather pattern westward, leaving the far west clear and cool.
Parade committees meet at 5 o clock to lay further plans for the big patriotic demonstration. The finance committee was tasked at the last meeting with raising a considerable amount for expenses.

Leslie D Cassidy valedictorian of Macon Ga leads the graduates list which includes J Ernest Herbert and others from New Orleans Jackson and Baton Rouge.
The newly built American steamship Munplace of the Munson Line docked at Pier 8 Mobile for her first voyage. She is a handsome, few months old vessel constructed at Sparrows Point Maryland for the Mobile Cuban trade. She came from New Orleans and will load general merchandise for Cuba.
Brownsville Texas June 15 Brigadier General James Parker will use movable blockhouses on wheels fitted to freight cars to protect bridges from Mexican bandit attacks. The first blockhouse, secretly built, was placed on a siding ten miles north of Brownsville between two trestles. It is well protected by sand and contains many loopholes.
St Louis June 15 The Roger Sullivan boom for vice president was rejected at a Illinois delegation caucus. The resolution urged renewed activity by Sullivan supporters if Vice President Marshall ceased to be a candidate. Mr J thanked the delegation saying he had never been a candidate.
The Alabama Conference Epworth League wrapped a three day meeting in Pensacola with Miss Carabelle Wilkes and Rev. Paul S. Powell thanked for their efforts. The next convention will be set by officers. Delegates praised St Francis Street League hospitality and Mobile Bay boat ride.
The conference urges delegates to return to their chapters devoted to service with renewed zeal. The resolutions call for all loyal leaguers to align with forthcoming tasks and to publish the record in the Alabama Christian Advocate. James E. Tate of Selma chairs with Miss Vannie Williams and Miss Kate Green of Selma as officers.
London reports say Russian forces push toward Galicia with headway near Lemberg and across the border fifty miles north of KovEL. Meuse artillery roars with Fort Souville under heavy fire while Verdun lines resist as German wedges threaten Chattancourt Cumieres sector. No infantry fighting reported in Paris bulletin.
Five bodies recovered from the Bear after it wrecked on Sugar Loaf Rock off California. Two boats carried survivors ashore. a third boat capsized with many drowned. About thirty aboard the first lifeboat perished. Vera Adams of Seattle survived in the third boat. Captain Mopander ordered lifeboats as the liner broke up.
Fort Smith Ark June 16 Six indictments were returned by the federal grand jury against T W Boone president H A Ball cashier Andrew H Dowd and E M Dickenson assistant cashiers of the American National Bank which closed its doors March 24 All four are named in one indictment containing sixty counts charging conspired to defraud the institution.
Henry J. Unrath was arraigned on a manslaughter charge in the recorder's court but dismissed after complainants did not appear. Betancourt family, whose child was fatally injured when struck by a machine, stated they did not want to prosecute, citing loss of control by the driver.
Four persons a woman and a man drowned when the small passenger vessel Marion overturned on the Pamlico River near Bath North Carolina. Six others aboard were rescued, the accident occurred today between Washington and Bath.
Reports from the Austro-Swiss frontier indicate Russian successes in a major offensive owe much to American ammunition and guns imported by Russia over the past four months. Japanese transports aid the imports, and Austria’s Military Journal corroborates that Russia’s limited ammo factories would struggle to sustain a long front without American supplies.
Captain C P Christiansen of the Norwegian bark Norstjerne recounted an encounter with a German U boat off the British coast. The commander offered to tow the ship and rescue the crew but Christiansen refused, fearing British patrols. after six hours they were picked up by a Norwegian vessel. He later took command of the Norstjerne and docked at Fort Morgan for orders.
A bomb in a package aboard a Chicago Burlington and Quincy transfer to the Oregon Shore Line exploded in a mail car at Butte Montana. The package, addressed to the governor of Utah, wrecked the car and disrupted the mail conveyance.
A. E. Marriott announced at the American meeting in the YMCA tea room that the life saving station at Battles has been completed.
Major Gray with two troops of afl cavalry pursued bandits after a night raid near the Laredo area. Eight Mexicans killed and 42 horses captured in the pursuit across the river into Mexican soil. One wounded American soldier later died, and guards were ordered to warn nearby ranches to evacuate.
