Dispatches report rising anti American sentiment in northern Mexico as Carranza authorities appear indifferent to events. Washington cites lack of details to protect consular work and notes officials’ anxiety as tensions crystalize in the region.
Within forty eight hours many dispatches on the subject arrived. Secretary Lansing read them promptly and sent the most important to the White House. Disquieting reports also come from agents along the border and inside Mexico, forwarded to the state department.
Three Mexicans in the raid were killed and three captured near Laredo. The report notes uncertainty whether Texas rangers or US troops pursued under Captain Welborn. With three captured earlier, nine bandits accounted for. Two saddles stolen from an American ranch last week were found with the captured men.
Reports from Casas Grandes say circulars denouncing the presence of American troops on Mexican soil have appeared at Casas Grandes and Colonia Dublan. A ranch manager near those towns claims Mexican soldiers disguised men have been taking cattle from his lands and complained to General Pershing.
General Gavira chief of Carranza forces at Juarez departs for Mexico City today in response to a summons from War Minister Obregon as tensions rise in northern Mexico.
Overnight reports to General Funston added nothing new to the latest raids near Laredo and the scouting expedition of Captain Ola W. Bell. No detailed report has reached department head and Bell’s exact location remains unknown.

Mayor Pat J. Lyons issued a proclamation urging all Mobilian residents to observe Flag Day on June 14. He cites President Wilson and encourages residents to display national colors, with the giant flag at Duncan Place to fly by Wednesday and flags at Lyons Park and other sites to be displayed.
Contracts for two more schooners two five masts and four mast were let by Henry Piaggio of Gulfport to an Orange Texas yard. D Linning of Marine Supply says two hundred fifty men began planking a large five master. Linning secured cargo hoisting engine installs in Orange and four in New Orleans. He also works on the Westgate at Sabine Texas. The total value remains undisclosed but the trip promises thousands of dollars to be spent locally.
Mr. Lining praises Orange for its swift shipbuilding push and notes two new schooners may cost Mr. Piaggio nearly 300000. He cites Orange carpenters, large crews, and rapid planking as a model. Lining also wins four big Mobile contracts against Crescent City rivals, boosting Mobile’s shipping standing in New Orleans.
The funeral for nine year old James E Betancourt who died from injuries after being struck by a car was held at 266 S Hamilton Street with Rev Father Daniel J Brady of St Vincents officiating. Henry Unrath the driver faced manslaughter charges in recorder's court with a June 15 reset.
A meeting planned for June 14 at the Selma courthouse to discuss a Bigbee River bridge for the Jackson Highway has been postponed to June 15 due to a Flag Day conflict. Government engineers said the planned span was too narrow and a 200 foot section remains under review.

Russian forces pressed toward Czernowitz the capital of Bukovina while reports said they attacked the Zalencyky bridge head. Rome reports all parties agree the new Italian cabinet should unite leading statesmen to form a national front except for about forty intransigent Socialists who oppose war as a principle. King Victor Emmanuel will consult Antonio Salandra Baron Sonnino and other top officials, including former premiers Giolitti and Luzzatti.
Russian troops tried to advance northeast of Buczacz in Galicia but were repulsed. The war office announced 1,300 Russians were captured in the engagement.
Charlies Stealey and E Barnes pleaded guilty Monday to violating the prohibition law. Judge Chamberlain imposed fines of 50 dollars and costs. Levene arrested by O Wolcott of the Boys Detention School for trespass after warning demanded a jury trial and was freed on 100 dollars. Levene allegedly entered the school to remove his son placed there by authorities. A juvenile court test was anticipated but postponed until the case reaches the upper court.
The Dauphin street car line will extend from Ashland Place to Tacon Street, half a mile, with a county board meeting noting the plan. Mobile Light and Railroad Company President J Howard Wilson asked the road committee to inspect the route. a trip is set for Tuesday afternoon. The project, soon to begin, will end near the tracks of the Kil and Shore and the New Orleans Mobile and Chicago road.
The Board of Revenue and Commissioners awarded the creosoted lumber bridge contract on Top Street Road to Hancock, Harbin & Hancock for 3093 dollars. Other bidders were Lyons Hunter 3990, Jett Muths Construction Co 3166.42, J T Jett & Company 3206.42. County Highway Engineer Harry Isher to direct work and the 271 foot bridge includes an 18 foot roadway.
Captain A C Danner resigns from Mobile’s joint rivers and harbors committee due to ill health after fifty years of service. A resolutions committee will honor him. he is made honorary member and his son Paul Danner will take his active seat representing the Chamber of Commerce.
Captain William Wilhelmsen longtime master of the Norwegian steamship Corinto for United Fruit Company has left the vessel and return to his Bergen home. Once captain of the Ole Bull for Munson Line he will soon command a larger steamship. Friends expect his return to the port.
The weather forecast suggests local thundershowers tonight and Tuesday with little temperature change. A cool northern area on high pressure brings cooler weather to the northern Rockies while the middle and east Gulf enjoy fair warmth. For the week expect thundershowers over the next three days followed by fair conditions.
