New Rail Rates Give Mobile Freight Advantage Over Pensacola
The new railroad tariffs from Eastern and Central points, effective January 1, place Mobile at a lower or equal rate to New Orleans and lower than Pensacola for many routes. Shippers in St. Louis can reach Mobile as cheaply as New Orleans, while interior cities like Jackson, Meridian and Selma see increases. The change, urged by the interstate commerce commission, affects hundreds of thousands of freight rates and many commodities.
