Washington officials remained silent on informal proposals to Britain and Germany for civilian food aid and submarine warfare limits. Vessels sailing yesterday and through the war zone include Brattingsborg of Denmark to Esbjerg, Borghum of Denmark to Aalborg, and Storstad of Norway to Havre.
Mayor Harry Pillans asked to locate James F. Peady and Hugh J. Peady in Mobile. In St John New Brunswick lies a large estate awaiting claims by heirs of James Ready who recently died. Attorneys Barnhill Ewing and Sanford report the heirs left St John about ten years ago and have not been heard from since.
Money and jewelry valued at 50000 were stolen from the apartment of Mrs. A H Smith wife of the New York Central Railroad president at a suburban Los Angeles hotel. The entry occurred while the family was at dinner Monday night.

Oscar Hendrickson, a sailor, was charged with escaping from the cemetery work gang. He was fined $5 with ten days hard labor as an alternative after being arraigned in the recorder's court. Hendrickson had been sentenced to ten days earlier but escaped on the first day.
Mobile fair with little temperature change tonight and Thursday. Alabama fair with light frost in southern portions tonight and Thursday. Mississippi fair tonight and Thursday with frost risk in the south tonight.
A seven man committee will lead the Chamber of Commerce crop diversification campaign across thirteen southwest Alabama counties with headquarters in Mobile. A stick of dynamite was discovered last Sunday in the Japanese exhibit at the Panama Pacific International Exposition. The device, wrapped in oil cloth and hidden beneath a display, had no fuse or cap. Jiro Harada, a Japanese commissioner, said the matter was investigated and treated as a possible practical joke.
John Nearer alias Bud Nearer was moved from Escambia county jail in Brewton to Mobile county jail for safe keeping after a judge of probate ordered his transfer. Sheriff Kelly said Nearer killed Poe Clements by striking him with an iron pipe at Roberts, Alabama, two months earlier after an argument over making beer from cane refuse. Nearer contends Clements cursed him and he acted in self defense.
Frank Grandovec of Greensburg pleaded guilty to writing a letter signed anarchist that threatened the president with death. He received a sentence of not more than one year in prison. The writer claimed to be unemployed.
The Mallory liner Lampasas sailed toward New York via Key West and Tampa with five hundred bales of cotton aboard. The cargo was destined for ree shipment to European ports aboard cotton steamers. The ship departed port Tuesday for the New York route.

The father John James a Bolivar county planter died leaving an estate worth about 100000 with a third to the daughter. James was separated from his wife after her birth. Mrs James formerly Miss Hettle Spence of this city later married Pierce who then separated and moved to Texas.
In New York on February 24 Flint & Co. export merchants counter suit against Marcellus H. Dodge over a plan to supply Britain with 3.5 million rifle cartridges weekly from Remington and Winchester. Flint seeks 500 000 dollars damages after Dodge, as Remington Arms Union Metallic Company, claimed unpaid balances for arms and munitions.
Theodore M. Davis died at 78 in Florida while wintering at the Bryan estate. The New York native gained fame in 1905 for locating the royal tombs in Thebes Valley of the Kings, including the parents of Queen Tele. He later excavated Amen-Hotep the heretic king beside Rameses IX, his tomb famed for abundant gold decor.
Mrs. Clara Haas of Maybury Alabama seeks George Hummel or his relatives believed to have lived in Mobile during the war. She says his daughters remain in Mobile and asks the police to aid in locating him or kin.

The Sixty fourth goes to New Orleans, the Thirty-ninth to Fort Morgan Alabama, and the One Hundred Seventieth and One Hundred Twenty eighth to Fort Crockett near Galveston Texas. Infantry units will replace them.

A convention was reached between the United States and British Honduras to establish two-cent postage for mail between the two nations after March 1, 1915. Washington reports the agreement as part of post office tariff changes.
Taylor Stevens was arrested by Officer L. J. Murray in Clarke County Alabama for breaking into the Home of W. Cobb at the door place and stealing one trunk of clothes. Stevens admits identity and officers will bring him here for the prisoner.
John Hord, a white man, was sentenced to seventy days on the county road by Judge Chamberlain in the Inferior criminal court. He stole seven chickens from Edward Matzenger on the bay front road seven miles from the city and appeared in public while intoxicated. The case followed evidence of a Tuesday yard theft committed while drunk.
Paris, February 24. Louis Bleriot states the war has proven the Zeppelin a failure militarily. He predicts the first overseas flight will be by airplane, not dirigible, and notes higher, swifter monoplane craft are the real assets while Zeppelins are poor targets when flown high.
Dr. Ellen B. Ligon was elected president of the Mobile Equal Suffrage Association at a Tuesday meeting in the Cawthon Hotel parlor. Officers include Mrs. Rhett Goode and Mrs. Matthew Brewster as vice presidents, Mrs. Martin Holbrook as treasurer, and Mrs. J. W. Bartee as executive committee chair. The group plans annual elections in May with dues set at 60 cents semiannually and an executive committee meeting Friday at 3:30.

The Clan McEnaughton armed merchant cruiser is missing after last contact on February 3 during severe weather. A search found wreckage portions, and officials fear the vessel and crew may be lost with two hundred eighty men reported aboard.
The Britta steamer Oakby was torpedoed by a German submarine off Rye. The crew was rescued by a fishing smack and landed at Ramsgate. Oakby, sailing from London to Cardiff, sank after the blast. A submarine periscope was seen before the explosion. Offshore Gratia arrived with the crew. In Berlin reports, obstacles hinder a Russian invasion.
Berlin dispatch reports Russians crossing the Bobr River in two places with a German official note confirming the action. Meanwhile Roumania plans to mobilize for April as Nichoas Misu returns to Bucharest with assurances the Roumanian army will take the field.

A Geneva dispatch via Paris reports that Serbian troops crossed into Austrian territory on the night of February 20 and advanced from Bjelina and Mitrovitza. The offensive is believed aimed at drawing Austrian forces away from the western front to northern areas.
Berlin reports a British collier was sunk yesterday afternoon at 4:45 by a German submarine off Beachy Head. The incident was announced from Berlin via London.
