Police heads in Chicago face indictments in bribery case

Grand jury planned to present charges Monday morning against Captain Halpin Lieutenant Tobin former Sergeant O'Brien and others for bribery and operating a confidence game. Bond amounts were set at 30000 for Halpin 15000 for Tobin and 15000 for O'Brien. Witness Barney Bertsche testified he paid police officials for protection of clairvoyants and swindlers and claimed threats of killing him.

Body of Little Margaret Milling Found in Sacramento Church Basement

The ten year old Margaret Milling was found strangled in the basement of the German Lutheran church near the state capitol. A rope with a noose and signs of assault marked the victim. Janitor Davide Fountain is jailed for questioning after conflicting statements and a police inquiry.

Parole Granted as Governor-Elect Manning Steers Law Policy

Parole was granted today by Governor Blease to J A Blackwelder serving a one year sentence for defalcation until EB H Rhame Jr who had defaulted of 32000 to the Bank of Sumter had been prosecuted and a verdict rendered. Manning succeeds Blease as governor and is bank president. Military actions shift toward Belfort and Metz with French counters against German forces near Muelhausen Altkirch and Sennheim.
