London reports say the British and French forces renewed action on multiple sectors from Dixmude to the Lys with a bold assault. German losses were heavy and retreating troops failed to recover, while Allied lines held and the attack continued across the front.
Theo Lacy received a six year term in the state penitentiary from Judge Armistead Brown after conviction on embezzling 2200 of convict department funds. He also carries a prior ten year sentence for embezzling 50000, with today’s sentence suspended ten days pending appeal and several other indictments pending.
Alma Alexander files a federal suit against Childs Incorporated seeking 10000 compensatory and 15000 punitive damages. She alleges a Greek cook verbally abused her on November 25 1914 after a mistaken bean soup order, then was fired, causing shock and mental anguish and physical suffering.
St. Paul Minnesota dispatch notes that St. Paul and Minneapolis will send 50 000 sacks of flour to Belgian war refugees. The sacks will be made of cotton so they can be used for underwear by Belgians and aid the cotton situation in America.
The British steamship Meltonian is loading 8000 bales of cotton for English ports. The ship is docked at Mobile and began cargo work Saturday morning, with twenty one gangs of cotton men employed. It is expected to complete loading by Sunday afternoon.
Bay Minette citizens send 28 dollars and 69 cents to the Alabama Belgian Relief Fund as part of a war relief effort. The letter from Bay Minette dated December 4 1914 notes the total cash contributions to date plus prior acknowledgments and lists the city as a contributor through J C OConnell Mobile Alabama and J D Byrne treasurer.
