Mrs Walter Jones wife of the condemned killer of Sloan Rowan visited the governor in Montgomery on Monday amid reports she delivered an oral confession from her husband implicating others. The governor declined to discuss the matter and denied possessing a written confession.
Pensacola August 20 Pensacola Hotel Company directors awarded a contract to a local firm for completing the sixth floor of the San Carlos Hotel building. The bid was sixteen thousand dollars. Work starts at once with half the rooms ready by November 1 and the other half in December.

Simeon T. Wright of Fayette who had been appointed internal revenue collector for Alabama and Mississippi by President Taft filed his resignation with Governor Emmet O Neal as a member of the state legislature. He was one of three Republican members of the house and had done good work for his county and state while serving. Wright succeeded Joseph Thompson of Birmingham as collector.
The funeral of E C Trumbo a Savannah banker is halted in St Joseph on Coroner Kellys order as his viscera are removed for analysis. Trumbo aged 75 died after a long stomach illness six months after marrying Agnes Maguire a St Joseph florist.
Indianapolis reports Governor Thomas R. Marshall to be formally notified in the afternoon of August 20 that he has been chosen as Woodrow Wilsons running mate on the Democratic national ticket. A large open ceremony is planned near University Square with Thomas Taggart as master of ceremonies and former Judge Parker delivering the notification address.
Dreamland advertises a large barbecue at the Alabama Baptist encampment in Pelham Alabama with W B Crumpton of Montgomery as tonight's speaker Delegates arrive by train and a dining room run by J O Dawson of Howard College and ten white students with Mrs M L Harris oversees efforts The encampment features electricity sanitation and artesian water in every room.
Dr Frank H Loveland of Topeka Kansas prison expert arrived in Columbia to inspect the Missouri penitentiary at Jefferson City and called it the most barbaric in the country with possible exceptions. He described seeing at least twenty inmates hung by their wrists with blood on their arms and toes barely touching the floor.
George V Hawkins former partner of late Mike McDonald once owned Garfield Park track and raced a string of breds. He died penniless and physical wreck due to domestic troubles, after June deserted him and gambling ended in Chicago.
Blondy the dog of financier John W. Gates is honored with embalming and a state funeral in an uptown garage. A plush coffin lined with white silk holds the pet with a Paris made gold collar and gold bells, surrounded by Gates family flowers. The body will travel to Port Arthur Texas for interment on the Gates estate.
Dr Edward Francis of the marine hospital service, posted from Washington to help curb bubonic plague in New Orleans, has been recalled and left for Washington. E T Ross, the San Francisco sanitarian known as the pied piper, also departed for New York to aid rat extermination efforts.
Five Alabama counties started teachers institutes Monday with sessions in Franklin at Russellville Winston at Double Springs Walker at Jasper Fayette at Fayette and Lamar at Vernon. State Superintendent H J Willingham praised the work and predicts benefits will appear in public schools in the coming terms.
An Anderson Indiana cyclone challenged an electric interurban but was outrun by the car just ahead as the storm tore across the track. The wind hurled trees onto the right of way and damaged wires, leaving passengers terrified as signals were ignored.
Thomas H. Stevens of Lexington Kentucky famed to horsemen died here today of pneumonia while in town for the races. His body will be sent back to Lexington. Those who saw the Dreamland show last night would tell you about him.

A bond for title was given to Chairman Tyler Goodwyn and a warranty deed will pass to the purchaser.
Kansas City August 19 Jack Cannon of the Kansas City Athletic Club won the Missouri Valley championship in tennis singles defeating Herbert Jones of the same club in straight sets.
The Alabama delegation of the National Negro Business League leaves Montgomery for Chicago for the league's thirteenth annual session. Emmet J. Scott, secretary. Logan, treasurer. A. R. Atwell. Booker T. Washington named head, with others from Opelika and Montgomery joining in. J. H. Phillips of Alabama serves on the state league's executive committee. The group departs by Pullman and will be joined by delegates at Nashville and Decatur en route.
