Negro Finds The Fishing Good At Boarding House

In Montgomery Alabama Peter Jones was found guilty of grand larceny after attempting a theft at a negro boarding house on Monroe Street. Evidence showed Jones used a bent wire to snag Theodore Wood’s pants containing $15 while Wood slept, then took the money and returned the trousers. Sentencing to follow.

Ortegal Taken by British Reported Off Portugal

Dispatch from Lisbon says the Hamburg American steamer Ortegal captured by a British warship was taken near Porto. The liner, carrying $5,000,000 in specie, sailed from Buenos Aires to Southampton on July 16.
