Her mother Mrs Mabel Hunt Slater widow of Horatio Slater owns Slater cotton mills and will marry Governor David I Walsh of Massachusetts. Slater fortune is about 7 million dollars. It is said Mrs Slater will enter the Catholic church under Cardinal O’Connell.
William J. Bryan urged Baltimore City Club that publicity is essential to honest administration. He linked open government to the people’s rights, urging citizens to study government and participate in elections, primaries, and conventions to shape policy with conscience and judgment.
Mississippi Methodists plan Galloway Memorial Day services on April 25 with church and Sunday school events. The Tug Native of Mobile Towing and Wrecking Company answered a fire call to ballast smoke from the lazarette of the British schooner Irma Bentley. Captain John E. Wilson led the Native that, after about an hour of fighting, extinguished the flames threatening the hull and sails. The Native remained at the scene for hours and was the sole boat to attend the blaze. The Bentley, loaded by Hunter-Benn Lumber Co, left port for St Johns, N.B. the following morning.

T E Broussard mill man was fined for reckless driving after his car struck Miss Elizabeth Hughes on Government street at Rapier avenue. Witnesses said the car went 30 mph, she suffered a skull fracture and shoulder injuries, and a $25,000 damages suit is pending in circuit court.

Fred Fincher died after a four day illness at 48 in a local infirmary. Survived by four daughters Ruth Pierce Maggie Birdie Jennie Fincher and two sons Thomas K and Fred Fincher Jr his mother Emily Fincher three brothers and six sisters. Funeral Sunday at 11 with interment in Wheelerville cemetery.

The Florida House adopted a resolution to submit a grandfather clause amendment to voters. The change would bar ballots to those who cannot read or write or lack $500 in real property, except for descendants of voters as of January 1, 1867. Supporters say the senate will approve.
The W. W. Jordan Lumber Company relocates its sawmill from Chicora to Winchester with partner W. W. Sullivan. They plan to harvest four to five million feet of Mack Pow timber including cypress, oak and yellow pine, to be stacked and loaded at Winchester.

Russian Black Sea torpedo boat squadron shelled a 15 mile Turkish coast between Archayva and Artashhin on April 19, igniting barrack and supply stores and sinking several coastwise vessels. Turkish forces halted attempts to offensive action on April 20. Air activity dominated, with Russian planes raiding Mlawa and Polak and German planes patrolling Ossowetz region.
Dr. Dunbar Rowland, head of the Mississippi archives and history department, was chosen president of the Mississippi Valley Historical Society at its Orleans convention. New officers include St George L Sioussat, Charles E Moore, and Charles S Payne with an executive committee of James F Willard and James H White.
