Grimsby, England, April 23. The trawler St. Lawrence was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea by a German submarine. Two crewmen were killed and seven survivors were brought to Grimsby by the trawler Queenstown. The Queenstown’s skipper says the submarine opened fire while rescuing St. Lawrence’s crew.
A Reuters despatch from Petrograd reports intensified Russian airship activity with a machine dropping fifteen bombs on Plock. German boats on the Vistula, the railway station and trains were hit. Bombardments targeted Mlawa railway station and the Sanniky aerodrome, with considerable damage to German trenches.
Baron de Macchio the Austrian ambassador held a long interview with Foreign Minister Sonnino in Rome, interpreted as an indication that negotiations between Italy and Austria are being continued.
