In Minneapolis grain traders set a record as cash market activity reached $5,672,000 with 2,925 grain shipments into terminals and 1,948 cars moved. Prices surged with December wheat near $1.14 and May wheat at $1.14, while overall grain and course grains mirrored the surge amid high demand and weather-driven constraints.
Personnel shifts occur in the western South Dakota office network. Heaton B J Coffey moves to the income tax division in St Paul as Agent Blair, while George Grant from Wood fills the field deputy role, and Fred of Mitchell replaces Grant in Wood. O A Buchecker of Mound City S D has spent a week in the meadow country and will establish an office in Bison to promote Perkins county interests. The mover and shaker rose from a rail laborer to a noted coal and land expert, credited with developing Walworth and Campbell counties and eyeing vast fertile land from the reservation line east to Medan west to Sam Buttes.
A steady stream of land seekers arrives in Lemmon area as land agents report strong sales. A party from Glen-Ti en toured Meadow area by auto, impressed with the land and likely to relocate south of Lemmon. Participants include Milton May, Harry May, Ferdinand Brown, Carl Brown, Mat Kuntz, Mike Bennet, Alex Bennet. Vernon A. Williams notes a large number of rentals next week.
Local readers chase the Grafanola prize by collecting store coupons during the final three weeks of the Herald contest. Each dollar spent during Christmas shopping earns 1000 points, with ballots due December 20 at noon. Coupon drops occur in Red Cross Pharmacy and other participating merchants as shoppers cast ballots.
