Thick snow cover appeared Thursday morning with about two inches on the ground after a five hour start at five. Weather remains unsettled with lingering cold and farm impacts as grain markets and elevators report heavy stocks and cautious selling amid the season’s early rush.
Senator Hoke Smith of Georgia argued for strong protection of neutral commerce against British interference. He condemned British blockades and urged the United States to defend sovereign neutrality and the rights of its merchants and ships amid ongoing disputes and embargo implications.
Jan Berger of Chaudoin township in Perkins County reports corn yields ranging from 25 to 45 bushels per acre after early summer high water. At an adjourned village council meeting on Wednesday evening a franchise to establish and operate an electric light plant for Hettinger was granted to Gus Smith and J P Smickrath for twenty years. State fair officials led by W. S. Hill M L Tobin and C N Mellvaine attended the American Association of Fairs and Expositions convention in Chicago December 2. They reported South Dakota fairs regarded as leading institutions with Hill on the admissions committee and Mellyrne chairing the program banquet committee. The next South Dakota fair is set for September 11 to 15 1916, after Minnesota and before the Sioux City Livestock fair, with no change to the northwest circuit.
William T. Clarkson of Chicago, visiting Lead to oversee mining interests, comments on Frank P. Walsh's plan to reorganize the U S army into a more democratic body.
