The opening assembly of the 1966-67 year will convene at 10 30 am in the Lee College auditorium. Plans for student elections and scholarship recipients will be announced. Morning classes will shift and the student union cafe and library close during the assembly period.
A Lee College offset printing course teaches techniques across composing and layout camera and copying operations making and stripping platemaking and developing press operation and finishing. Students range 18 to 52 including World War I veterans and draft eligible workers. Motivations include better employment skill improvement and interest in printing. The class sits opposite the cafeteria in the Liberal Arts Building and uses real reproduction equipment.
Lee College students may enter the Lions International Peace Essay Contest with a $50,000 total prize. Eligible ages are 14 to under 22 as of Jan 15, 1967. Entry limits, prize levels, travel to Chicago in 1967, and the Dec 10, 1966 deadline are announced by Baytown Lions Club.
Lee College announces accident insurance through Southwestern States Generals Agency for students and staff. Policies cost 1 2 or 6 dollars with 2 covering twice the 1 and 6 offering 24 hour worldwide protection until the next school year. Under 21 students living at home need a parental signature. applications and payments are accepted by Mrs Whitaker with Dean Rundell urging immediate enrollment.
Assistant dean Alvin Miles warns that parking space will remain tight until more lots are funded. Rules mandate cars stay between yellow lines and keep entrance clear. five spaces near the building reserved for visitors. Street parking allowed. square permits obsolete. round stickers now required for student cars.
Mr. Thurman Rowlett announces three major productions for the coming year with a spring musical among options. Auditions set for 3 p.m. Sept. 27 in the auditorium. Madwoman of Chaillot will be staged this semester with major roles drawn from the class. A one act farce Coming Round the Mountain will be taken to local schools for entertainment.
Fall term enrollment at Lee College shows an uptick with current 2,150 students and 195 more expected, aiming for about 2,345 this period. Dean Walter Rundell notes a 10 percent annual rise and cites programs with Texas Department of Corrections Huntsville, Humble Oil and Refining Co cooperation, and MDTA courses in nursing, auto mechanics, stamping, and stenography.
Lee College students under the GI Bill must apply for educational assistance within 15 days of enrollment. Application blanks are available in the registrar's office at LC. Mrs. Bessie Durham explained that completed forms must be mailed to the VA, which will issue eligibility statements. Checks cover the enrollment month, with monthly certification cards due thereafter.
