The article surveys European Halloween beliefs tied to foretelling futures and ghosts on All Saints Eve. It notes customs such as dead visitors returning at midnight to reveal destinies, a maid seeing a future spouse by washing a chemise, and various plant and vine superstitions linked to luck, wealth, and love.
The Board of Regents ratified a 115.5 acre site purchase for Lee College at Interstate 10 and North Main. The $194,893.84 land deal was financed by the March 5 bond issue and involves multiple sellers including Texas Gulf Trust Co and Dr. Gerald Smith.
The Fall Festival plans three trophies for best booth originality decoration and highest proceeds. Last year the event raised 490 dollars with Lee College's Texas Student Education Association booth earning 126.82 from a little red school house display.
Regent President Sam Bramlett named three committees to study Lee College district expansion Long-range planning for a new campus site will be led by Alma McNulty L J Marsh and W J Strickler A study of out of district fees will be conducted by Dr Richard Strahan and staff with Ewing Gunn also on the panel Bramlett seeks potential reduction or elimination of fees.
Lee College adopts a new organizational chart with four top administrators at equal level. Academic dean Dean Walter Rundell and dean of students Alton Laird join the top tier, joined by comptroller Alvin Miles and dean of technical-vocational education C. J. Collum. Registrar Mrs. Bessie Durham and public relations director Miss Sue Jones report directly to the president.
October schedule lists events such as an OAS picnic Halloween Dance and ROTC assemblies in the auditorium. Other items include Circle K football, Log photos, TSEA tea, Fall Festival, and several dances, concerts, and holidays through late November.
Lee College government instructor Glynn Tiller was invited to present a paper at the Southwestern Social Science convention in Dallas next March. Dr. Clifton McCleskey of the University of Texas issued the invitation. The paper covers a survey of metropolitan legislative candidates in which Tiller participated.
The council adopted a list of student events for the rest of the college year after a report by calendar chair John Drouilhet. Approved dates include January 25 street dance February 25 Confederate Ball March 13 Senior Night April 8 Field Day and an old fashioned picnic May 2 Student Council dinner Western Week is set for April 17 to 22. Committees and plans will follow. Dean Alton Laird criticized low Lyceum attendance and urged council effort to boost participation.
