Walker's Rise Across Sports, Teaching, and Degrees at Lee College

Billy D. Walker, Lee College instructor, rose from Anahuac high school to Southwest Texas and Stephen F. Austin through athletic scholarships and work. He taught English, physical education, biology, and now psychology while pursuing a Doctor of Psychology at the University of Houston. Walker values hands on experience and student communication and notes summers spent as a swimming instructor in Jasper and Nacogdoches along with a summer clinical psychology rotation at John Sealy Hospital. He and his wife Dorothy Jane have four children and she recently earned a BS while teaching at Sheldon Elementary.

Holidays End Classes Early for T J C T A Meeting

Faculty attend a T J C T A meeting February 20 21 causing classes to end Thursday at 12 30 pm and not resume until Monday February 25.

Lee College Hosts Open House for Area High School Seniors

Lee College invites area high school seniors to an open house on March 5 highlighted by Senior Night activities. The event features campus tours of departments including business, chemistry, language lab, and nursing with student leaders coordinating registration and tours. A 7 to 8 p.m. program in the auditorium includes LC Choir and Band performances and remarks by David Smith. A gym dance with refreshments follows, plus a free swimming period from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. Tickets and invitations will be mailed to seniors.

New Course In Basic Electronics at LC

LC offers a two year introductory course in Basic Electronics for prospective electronic technicians. Sherwood Jackson Carpenter will instruct the program. Carpenter holds a BA from the University of Texas and a Masters of Education from the University of Houston, and has taught at LC for seven years along with engineering courses.

Spring Count Sets College Enrollment Record at Lee

Lee College reports a spring enrollment of 1,531, the highest for spring in its history, announced by Dean Walter Rundell after Friday’s registration. The spring total is 193 above last year’s spring record, while fall enrollment peaked at 1,636. Rundell notes spring drops from fall are expected.

Year 1961 enrollments show fall lead over spring

The record reports 1,516 students enrolled in fall 1961 and 1,338 in spring 1961, with a drop of 178 between fall and spring. An additional year shows a fall to spring decrease of 105.

Tichman Trio to Perform at Lee College Auditorium

Baytown readers will hear the Tichman Trio in a Bayshore Music Society concert at Lee College Auditorium on February 24 at 8 p.m. Lee College students admitted with activity tickets. The trio features Herbert Tichman clarinet Ruth Tichman piano and Dorothy Reichenberger cello with notable international solo careers and connections to Juilliard and Casals.
