An election to ratify a new Student Congress constitution is scheduled for October 7. Students must present ID to vote and may review the constitution before the election, which will be placed in red wooden boxes in each location.
University of Houston history and law professor Dr. Robert C. Palmer spoke to the Young Democrats in Moser Hall on September 24 about two ways scholars view the Constitution. He argued the document protects rights not detailed by its writers yet balances individual and community rights amid a framework emphasizing representative government. Palmer noted the bicentennial era view of a flexible text versus a fixed, aristocratic balance, and discussed how the revamped Student Congress aims to increase accountability and clear governance for campus activities and finances.
Drama department presents The Creature Creeps a two act comedy by Jack Sharkey opening last weekend in October at LC The cast features Rick Keene Tracy Martin Shannon Smith with T E Rowlett Jr directing. Set in Castle Von Blitzen Tran sylvania Texas near Round Mountain and Jollyville.
The Lee College Board of Regents approved a 4 percent pay raise for President Vivian Blevins, boosting her salary to 78000 and extending her contract by one year. The board kept the 13.75 cent tax rate for 1987-88 to fund a 15.1 million budget, and awarded a one year contract to Sherron Security Service for about 4000 hours of work at 6.70 per hour.
Senate Bill 24 bans hazing on campus and shields students from brutal acts. House Bill 2811 creates a Student Fees Advisory Committee led by students to oversee fee payments and spending. A federal Substance Abuse Law requires campuses to educate about alcohol and drug risks and refer students for help, with LC planning mid October talks and workshops.
