Student Aims to Save Ridley Sea Turtles Through Research
Sophomore Rick Sides, urged by LC instructor Dr. Vern Lehmberg, joined the Turtle Research Team at Texas A&M Galveston and assisted marine biologist Donna Shaver. His work on dredging effects in Brownsville harbor included necropsies and documenting that shrimp nets, not malnutrition, killed stranded Ridley Kemp Sea Turtles. He recorded an adult Ridley with 39 eggs and helped promote TE D usage through the H.E.A.R.T. group.

Gen X sex decline challenges talk show stereotypes
University of Chicago researchers report the National Health and Social Life Survey finds reduced sexual promiscuity among Americans aged 18 to 30. The 752 page study based on seven years of interviews with 3432 participants shows fidelity norms rising, AIDS fears influencing behavior, and shifting patterns: premarital sex and longer courtships. It notes differing starting ages for intercourse among White and African American groups and higher early marriages among older generations.
