Regent candidates discuss Bay Area Rehabilitation Center inclusion in campus policies while urging support for disability access. Election coverage notes campaigns offering assistance to handicapped students and preserving accessibility on campus.
The Student Activities Committee SAC will sponsor a candidate caucus from 11 a.m. to 12 30 p m April 2 in Moser Hall at Lee College The nine Board of Regents hopefuls will introduce themselves discuss campaigns and answer questions pre submitted by students and faculty A receptacle will collect questions in Moser Hall Candidates have one minute for opening and closing statements and must respond to all questions No on floor questions during the caucus Ballot positions were drawn March 6 Names and positions include Ida Morrison Jesse Shead Ray Hopper Drew Williams Claudia Smith Maymo Lewis Jacqueline Slaughter Wayne Gray Oswall Harman The three open seats are held by Smith Leonard Stasney and Reggie Brewer Election runs 7 a m to 7 p m on April 5
Lee College eyes on campus day care for students children with Baytown church as provider. Instructor John Russell says program could start fall semester. Survey shows high demand, with varied formats and prices from $3 per hour to full day $50 weekly, plus past programs and other colleges as benchmarks.
The Presidential Search Advisory Committee has released the profile for the college’s new chief executive officer. Candidates with doctorates and experience in financial management and long range planning will be favored. The committee seeks administrators, teachers, and leaders with a participatory style, enthusiasm, visibility, innovation, and ability to work with four year institutions and local groups, aiming for board by September or October.
Robert D. Larsson of Schenectady New York is expected on campus as interim president by Monday following the Board of Regents approval of his selection by the Association of Community College Trustees. Larsson retired as president of Schenectady County Community College in 1980 after ten years as CEO and has since worked as a higher education consultant. He later served as adjunct professor of mathematics at Union College from 1981 to 1983 and acted as president from August to November 1982. He holds a BA in mathematics from the University of Maine and an MA in mathematics from Syracuse University.
Today is the graduation application deadline at Lee College. Applications are in Moser Hall Admissions and Records. Students must pay a cap and gown fee. Officials expect 115 graduates in May, with 120 last year. Ceremony set for 7 p.m. May 15 at Robert E. Lee High School auditorium.
Lee College explores more classes at San Jacinto Mall with continuing education set to pilot this summer. The mall provides a convenient, classroom-like space near Royal Optical, aiming for four to six rooms covering academic and vocational courses.
