Lee College students hear TSA bills and Talton visit

Rep Robert Talton met with Lee College Student Congress on Feb 26 after presenting three bills from the Texas Student Association convention in Austin. Tangible topics included a student rep on university boards of regents, caps on student service fees, and increased college funding. Talton advised writing personal letters rather than petitions and did not take a stand on the bills. A Easter family day picnic was proposed for LC families with volunteers sought to organize. The Ball Student Congress semi formal will occur April 30 at Sylvan Beach Pavilion with tickets on March 22, dinner by Murray’s, souvenir glasses, and alcohol served with IDs.

College seeks at least 20 full time teaching positions

Lee College advertises for at least 20 full time faculty roles to meet its Affirmative Action Plan and state and federal employment rules. Several interim hires will apply again, including three coaching posts volleyball basketball and baseball with full time appointments contingent on funds.

Lee College Career Day to Feature 105 Companies

Over 100 firms are set for Lee College annual Career Day in Moser Hall game room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 1. Ann Hendon, job placement officer, said 105 companies were invited including GTE Bay Coast Medical Bay Tax Randall's Astroworld Security and the Texas Department of Corrections. Companies will run information booths on job requirements and openings with some accepting applications and interviews. Students should bring resumes and dress professionally. Safety drive at Lee College seeks student ideas

Lee College security seeks student safety suggestions via suggestion boxes in buildings. The three shifts cover 24 hours with five full time and two part time officers trained at the State Commission School in Austin. They carry radios on a Baytown police band and offer escort services from Rundell Hall. Incident reports stay four years and are public. Crime stats show drops in robbery and aggravated assault from 1991 to 1992. burglaries rose slightly. Emergency numbers are 425-6888 off campus or red phones on campus.

Stepping Out Career Workshop Draws Local Students

Nearly 90 students attended the second annual Stepping Out event on March 3 designed to prep students for the job market. Sponsored by the Lee College Job Training Partnership Act Office and the Non-Traditional Student Center, the workshop featured a mock interview staged by Pete Alfaro of Exxon Refinery and Celia Ann Saterbak.

Job interview workshop equips students for market

Celia Ann Saterbak chairs a Lee College event where about twice as many attendees as last year gathered across ages ethnicities and backgrounds. Role play sessions show candidates how to present themselves while experts from Lynette B. Relyea Associates Texas Employment Commission and local colleges offer tips on networking resumes applications cover letters and interview questions. The session includes guidance on highlighting strengths building esteem and organizing job searches.
