Harris County health officials declare a rabies epidemic after three animal cases in 28 days in Houston. Doctors urge vaccination and booster programs for dogs and cats, with guidance to bring unvaccinated pets to the Rabies Control Center for destruction and testing.
The annual Colonel and Miss Lee dance, sponsored by Student Government, will be held February 9 at the K C Hall on West Main. Nominations ran January 21 to February 1 with booths in Moser Hall. Candidates must be fulltime sophomores for Colonel and Miss Lee. freshmen pick a Duke and Duchess. Festivities start at 8 30 p m and end about 12 30 a m.
LC students share views on reviving the military draft. President Carter says no current plan to seek renewal, but may consider it if needed. Opinions vary on including women, with some favoring male drafts only and others supporting volunteers or conditional drafts.
Representatives from 46 senior colleges and universities will participate in the fifth annual College Day on Wednesday Feb 20 from 9 to 11 am in Moser Hall. About 20 area high schools are invited to bring students with a special invitation to parents of students planning senior college attendance. The Lee College representatives will answer most questions from students and parents.
Campus security reported two buildings Rundell Hall and the Technical Vocational buildings suffered vandalism on January 12 with window breakage and papers scattered. Damage estimated at 3400 to 500 dollars with more harm in the music wing where flower pots were dumped and glass shattered. Robert McGraw notes campus security presence helped keep vandalism low. two full-time and one part-time guards cover campus and parking lots daily.
Registration for the Vocational Nurses Program opens Monday February 11. Applicants must be 17 or older, in good health, and meet education and testing requirements. Tuition totals 227.75 for in and out of district students plus 28.75 fees. uniforms no longer required. The 12 month course includes 20 weeks of preclinical instruction and 32 weeks of clinical hospital practice. Graduates receive a certificate and may apply for the State Board Examination.
