The Lee College bookstore will buy back used books starting Dec. 10, the first day of final exam week. Used books are purchased at 50 percent of the price paid, not the new price. Returns allowed up to three weeks after the term ends.
Thirty eight students nominated for Who's Who in American Junior Colleges per Dean Ed Moak. The LC regents approved new tennis courts expansion for Moler Hall and a furniture and equipment purchase including a 1980 St Regis sedan. Reggie Brewer was sworn in to fill Donna Cryer’s unexpired term, while architect Lowell Lammers was named for the Moser Hall expansion. The energy management system showed substantial cost savings and a quick return on investment.
Robert Bevill, a deaf teacher, offers the first sign language oriented classes at Lee College this semester. He teaches both beginner and advanced courses using writing on the board, sign language, and pantomime, emphasizing practical communication methods as an asset rather than a handicap.
The first day of classes limits speech in class as about 30 students, mostly normal hearing, enroll in beginning sign language to learn basic signs finger spelling and Ameslan. Advanced course focuses on Ameslan. Bevill, with degrees from Gallaudet and the University of Arizona, teaches after moving from Arkansas School for the Deaf. Manual Communications and Manual Communication II offered in spring.
