Multiple Events Reported From Augusta Mill And City

The dispatch describes a suicide attempt in a station house cell by Hopkins, cut down by Street Overseer Lee and later subdued after two more self harms. Law Flouted By Texas Mobs in Hempstead Lynchings

At Hempstead Texas on October 21 Wesley Barton and Reddick Barton two Black men were hanged by a mob after being convicted of criminal assault and murder. The district judge requested troops from the governor to transfer them from Houston jail but the request was countermanded by local citizens promising to aid authorities. Barton pleaded guilty to criminal assault.

Mob Burns Suspect After Arrestly Killing Mrs Lewis

Forest City Arkansas October 20 Charles Young a Black man accused of assaulting and killing Mrs Ed Lewis white was lynched by a mob. Sheriff Williams and Judge Hatton faced demands for lawful trial but the mob seized the prisoner from the jail and executed him by fire. The search for a second suspect continued into midnight as the mob scattered.
