Coughing Up a Nail Ends Child's Worrying Episode

Happenings in the State report a Valhalla three year old, who swallowed a four inch wire nail over a month ago, coughed up the nail during a period of coughing. The child had risked an Atlanta operation but illness of the mother delayed plans. The event brings relief to the family.

Death of Noted Outlaw Younger Shocks St Paul

James Younger, famed Younger brother, died by his own hand in St Paul on October 20. He had been paroled from Stillwater penitentiary where he and Coleman Younger were serving life terms for the Northfield raid of 1876.

Negroes Torture and murder linked to assault report

Special to The State Anderson October 22 details an assault attempt near Cooley's bridge on Saluda River. A stranger negro man tried to assault a woman, fled across the river, was captured near Shady Grove church, identified, and subjected to brutal punishment by a mob. Also noted: Joe Clark jailed for murder of Ed Scott after a knife wound in a struggle, coroner's jury rules death by unknown parties. Shot His Wife Then Killed Himself in Augusta

In Augusta Georgia on October 25 Police officer Chas H Walker shot his wife at her mother-in-law’s home then killed himself after a brief conversation with Mrs Walker who answered the door. Four shots struck the wife and a final bullet ended Walker’s life. A letter reading At the mercy of Tiberius was found on him.
