Judge Gary Urges Strict Jury Duty in Marlboro County

In Bennettsville on November 16 Judge Gary addressed the grand jury urging firm compliance with juror service to prevent miscarriages of justice. He noted 17 criminals in jail, praised the Marlboro courts for their stern stance, and cited cases including a white man sentenced to 30 days for drunkenness at a church and several defendants sent to the chain gang or public works. Henry Patrick is among the murder cases to be tried.

Weiters of Charleston Enters Another Suit

A third action has been instituted against Charleston dispensary constables and their bondsmen. Rudolph D. Weiters sues Gideon Bate, May, Hoy, and Grady for 500 dollars each. He previously filed a 10000 dollar federal suit and a circuit court criminal action over the bond, and now adds a state court suit making three separate actions.

Camden Tragedy a Mystery in Bank Woes

Special to Charlotte Observer from Camden reports a double tragedy at the Farmers and Merchants bank with E Miller Boykin and EC Zenny dead by suicide after alarming losses. The bank pledges solvency and directors meet to inspect records while noting no shortfall in funds. Funeral services are held for Boykin and Zemp.

Bank assigns assets to Vanx and Kennedy for creditors

The board resolves to assign all property assets and credits of the bank to E. S. Vanx and A. D. Kennedy to be administered for the benefit of all creditors under the law. The resolution was signed by all directors and the deed of assignment executed immediately.

Tragic suicide of Charlotte editor's son at home

J P Caldwell Jr. aged 19, son of Charlotte Observer editor, shot himself through the heart at his home in Charlotte. He had suffered depression for six weeks and had expressed intent to kill himself but was thought to be despondent rather than purposeful. He had two years in the U S Navy and recent illness and melancholia.

Revelations Shock Brooklyn Parish Over Pastor

Brooklyn parishioners at St. Leonard's Catholic Church are stunned by the pastor Rev. Father George D. Sandor being exposed as living a double life. He was traveling under the alias George West in New Jersey where he owned a stable of thoroughbreds. a Mrs. West, reportedly Mrs. Kipp of the congregation, ran the stock farm and has asked for help locating her relatives.
