Wayward Couple Marries Amid Baby in the Woods Case

Spartanburg May 15 The latest feature in the Baby in the Woods case occurred at John R Bain’s residence when Gus Shaw married Sue Clark in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Lewis M. Roper. Shaw remains jailed on $500 bond. Clark posted $200 and was released. They face charges of cruelty in neglect of a deserted infant found with Bain.

New Charter Fees Detailed by State Secretary of State

The schedule lists new omissions and charter fees effective May 1, including 2.50 for recording return and another 2.50 when return is made. Capital stock fees vary from one mill per dollar up to four quarters per dollar with initial 550 on first 1,000,000, plus applicable adjustments. Fees must be paid when papers are filed and private checks are not accepted unless certified. This lowers charges for small capital and raises them for larger charters.

Hubbard Sentenced as Friends Plan $900 Bail

W H Hubbard, longtime U S deputy marshal and Bennettsville resident, was sentenced for illicit liquor selling. A sealed sentence set a $500 fine or eight months on the chain gang, with prior similar offense leading to $400 fine or six months. Friends expect to raise $900 to cover fines. FP. C.
