Florence March 19. The court of general sessions opened with a large crowd as W. O. King, a white man, faces trial for the killings of James Rogers and Sam Rogers. The sequence began January 31 in Florence when King shot James after demanding a promised dog and then killed Sam Rogers after he warned that King would kill him too. James Rogers died February 22 from his wounds after King’s repeated shots, while Sam Rogers died within an hour. King was captured near Denmark in mid February and jailed in Florence.
