Southern Bankers Endorse Plan for Cotton Growers
New Orleans Jan 25 The Southern bankers endorsed the plan of the National Cotton Growers association to finance holding the present crop surplus under a convention pledge of 25 percent reductions in acreage and fertilizers They urged cooperation to build a uniform warehouse system and authorized a finance committee led by W H Rivers of Texas and John D Walker of Georgia to work with the association A $10 000 voluntary southern banker fund was authorized to aid implementing the plan.

Five year old daughter of Mr R Peebles killed when her brother, age six, discharged their father's gun. The blast destroyed the back of her head at Betts's Lumbar Mill two miles east of Sumter.

Fire strikes Union townsfolk suffer major losses
A severe fire in Union on June 26 caused extensive property damage estimated around 1,000,000 with about 821,000 insured. Buildings burned include People's Supply company store, Masonic lodge quarters, Enion carriage works, and several residences and businesses. A guard, Lewis Black, was buried at Reedy Creek church ten days after an earlier incident on the same boat. Injuries reported from a separate incident near Jefferson. Also reports a fire at Southern Cotton Oil Company in Bennettsville causing around 100,000 in losses insured.
