The store announces a clearance as it closes, with bargain counters and marked down goods across summer dress, white goods, and gents furnishings. Five and ten cent sections feature 8 to 10 cent and 15 to 20 cent items, plus an enlarged grocery department and quick delivery.
A local retailer announces a 30 day program with many items in the grocery department priced at cost or less. The ad promises doubled stock and aims to make the stores the best trading price in the district as they clear room for new merchandise.
Lancaster Mercantile Company publishes General Passenger Department timetable effective June 15 1901 in eastern time. The schedule outlines service times and routes for the period, reflecting early 20th century railroad passenger operations served by the Lancaster hub.
Eighteen miles south of Savannah on the Seaboard line, Joe Washington, a black man accused of ravishing Mia J. Clark, is identified by the victim and executed by burning at a stake near Ways Station. Mob leaders oversee the torching as Washington dies without a groan. In a separate note, Sudieville residents learn a health rebound for Mrs Whitaker attributed to Dr King’s New Discovery, with testimonials and local store listings.
Special to The Stater Bennettaville Aug 9 Jim Harris executed for the murder of Capt Carter, a chain gang guard, last winter. Sheriff Green and deputies oversaw the sentence, Jim spoke with the murdered man’s sons, prayed with a local preacher, and was executed by rope while addressing laborers and awaiting legal counsel. The body was left hanging briefly before removal. other items note Jack Winters confessing to recovering bullion from a bank heist.
The central cotton belt and parts of the Atlantic States show improvement in cotton, with Texas also improving. Northern western states face partial drought relief, North Carolina suffered from excessive rainfall, and shedding remains typical. Frosting is satisfactory, picking will soon be general in southern and central Texas, and open balls are becoming common in gulf states. The plot remains small and late.
Joe Wilson was stabbed to death in Sumter on Saturday night by Albertus Elliott, both described as colored, during a quarrel over a woman. Police are investigating the incident and have not filed charges at this time.

The governor was informed of a graveyard vandalism at Gem Branch Baptist Church in Darlington County. A $50 reward is offered for the apprehension of the party or parties responsible after headstones were toppled and desecrated in a shocking display.
