In a severe thunderstorm the home of Will Jenkins in Union was struck by lightning. Mrs Jenkins was injured and the house sustained heavy damage. Jenkins is a bass spinner at Monarch cotton mills.
A negro attempted to steal from Mr Porter as he harnessed a horse. Porter fired but missed. another assailant knocked Porter unconscious with a stomach punch. The thief fled with $40 plus a watch, wattle, and chain, leaving the barbed wire fence and bloodhound tracking to the scene before losing the trail. Porter notified police.
