A county plea warns Lincoln County must go over the top in the Liberty Loan drive within three days. Readers are urged to subscribe generously, with meetings and bank visits organized to place names on the subscriber list. The aim is to show resolve to hasten peace and bring servicemen home.
Star Valley mourns Leroy Porter of Fairview who died at a New Jersey camp from Spanish influenza while awaiting overseas duty. Porter, auto mechanic trainee, left Star Valley last June with others. He married Mellie Parker of Lanark Idaho, and his brother also died from influenza the same day.
Mrs. Wallace Salmon died this month at her parents home in Diamondville after a brief illness. Dr. Tucker diagnosed pneumonia when called Thursday and the condition was serious. Her husband, in France for training with the 46th, had married her about a month before his departure. he is twenty one. Surviving is a brother, T Hunter Salmon.
Mr. John Faddie, Cumberland Mine Superintendent, reports forty influenza cases in Cumberland with eight turning Pneumonia. No deaths yet, but several patients in critical condition. Two nurses and the mine foreman’s wife attend to the cases, with limited sleep for days. Rumor of a death is false. patients are recovering.
Erroneous notices in Kemmerer Republican and Cokeville Register misdated registration. Agents failed to hold registration from the Sth to the 12th and planned five day periods from the 15th. Two remaining days are the 24th and 26th. Voters not yet registered must act or cannot vote. Registration required in all incorporated towns and railroad precincts with over 100 votes cast previously.
A near fatal fight broke out Monday morning at Jadot Hotel between three Japanese visitors who had argued all night. One man was cut in the neck, narrowly missing a fatal jugular wound, and required ten stitches at Dr Marquis's office. The other two were jailed, facing preliminary charges in Kemmerer.
The small son of Frank Hosenstein of Kemmerer broke his leg in a runaway Elkol automobile. Dr D D Stafford was called yesterday afternoon, treated the boy, and he was brought to the I C M Hospital where his leg was set and he is getting along nicely.
Three Liberty Loan teams worked Saturday in Kemmerer to solicit subscriptions. Kemmerer Savings Bank offered a $4.15 thrift stamp prize to the top team. Joe Pia and Andrew Morr won the prize despite being second in total money subscribed. Jan Rosenberg and T. Hunter Salman valued about $10,000. Big Koe Dan Sullivan secured about 000. Joe Pir and Andrew Morrow led with about $3,860 in subscriptions.
Bill Langriil arrives in Kommerer after months on Harold Moon's ranch in the Upper country. He bagged his alk last week.
At the request of the Liberty Bond Loan Committee of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank the paper will publish next week a complete list of subscribers to the Fourth Liberty Loan with the amount of each subscription opposite the name. Subscribe an amount you will be proud to see in print.
