Cumberland 15 Robbed of Safe and Valuables
A small safe weighing about 75 pounds was stolen from Nick Ziller’s Cumberland home last Friday night while residents tried to extinguish a fire at a nearby building. The safe contained $300, $400 in Liberty Bonds, and $200 in diamond pins. $4,000 total loss including property in the burned building. Sheriff Ben Bell and Deputy Sheriff Wm Collett investigated but found no suspects. a man reportedly carried out the burglary solo, and tracks were obscured by rain. The safe later reappeared buried in mud under a railroad bridge, contents untouched. The Ziller property, valued around $1,500, was associated with Star Valley Sheep Outlet.
