A weather worn diary received by Mrs. Isabella Stacy of Diamondville records Pvt Dave Llewelyn's death during a July 26 attack near Foret de Fere. Roy Little of the 167th Infantry notes Llewelyn was hit while charging a German machine gun nest and buried near La Croix Rouge Farm.

Spanish Flu Toll Hit Lincoln County Boys

Word from Kemmerer reports two Lincoln County youths at Colorado College near illness from Spanish influenza. Bill Angelo and Ray Roberts are affected. Roberts’ condition described as serious in a telegram to the Colorado Springs camp. The flu epidemic has hit camps in the East and South with high death rates.

Women in War Work Event in Kemmerer

The Women in War Work program in Kemmerer begins at 7 30 with the Kemmerer band leading a public parade. A mass meeting in Lyceum hall will follow where prizes and “stanta” of various sorts will be awarded and the role of allied nations in the war effort will be discussed.

The Lincoln-Idaho Oil Company under William Wood plans a small refining plant at Dry Piney and forecasts McCormick well output within 30 days to fuel Green River Valley. 25 wells to be drilled in Dry Piney in 1919, reaching Shannon sands at 960 feet, with a Wall Creek sands well next summer.

Taysom Nabs Batch of Utah Sheep in Lincoln County

County Assessor Gilbert Taysom and Deputy Sheriff W Smaalley rounded up about 4000 head of sheep from Chris Larson of Utah to secure $595.08 in taxes and $42.41 costs. Larson agreed to pay, but the trip to the county fair was delayed.

Fire Destroys Local Garage in Kemmerer

A disastrous Sunday blaze leveled the Lincoln County Garage causing about 40000 in losses. Firemen, led by Platt Wilson, saved most cars except four in the rear shop. witnesses noted rapid spread and several explosions as flames consumed the building and nearby structures.
