Unprecedented Tax Collection for Lincoln County in 1918

Lincoln County reports extraordinary tax receipts with $285082.62 paid by the end of last month from $311000 collectable for 1918, leaving about $24000 delinquent. 1917 total collections were only $166.19, far behind 1918 progress, aided by Treasurer Gilbert Taysom’s measures.

Coal land restored to entry near Glencoe and Cumberland

Information from Washington states a tract near Glencoe and Cumberland, previously in petroleum withdrawal, has been restored to coal entry after an appeal to the Interior Secretary. The Kay entry, opposed by Star Coal Company led by Victor Smith, is now open. Star Mine operates under lease by Reynolds and Mullings from Star Company.

Jackson Appeals for Outside Help in Epidemic Strain

An urgent appeal to doctors and nurses was made as Jackson Hele country faced a flu epidemic beyond local control. Telephones to Idaho areas failed to relocate physicians, but two nurses were sent from Jackson with help from Fred Kaickerbecke and Oregon Short Line officials. By Saturday more medical support arrived as the outbreak worsened with several deaths reported and the governor urged rapid physician deployment.

School Board cited for contempt over Viola School move

Writ of injunction served by deputy sheriff on La Barge School District directors to stop moving the Viola School was ignored. Board members B H Bimpkine and Chas Olson face contempt proceedings, with Joseph Guyetto and Philstus Twitchell also named for taking part in the move. May term court date set. penalties include fines up to 200 dollars and possible jail.

Green River Potash War Delays City Annexation Order

Attorney M. Wilson won a district court injunction blocking Green River from acting on a plan to annex the Liberty Potash Co territory within the city limits. The case centers on a state court challenge and a pending motion to dissolve the injunction with hearings expected soon.

Exciting Farm Road Accident In Hamatork Bend

Abe Manass crashed his Ford while driving toward Frontier on a sunny afternoon. He lost the road near the bridge by the power house and the car rolled into the river bed. Abe freed himself, suffered only fright and minor injuries, and decided to be more cautious on future trips.

Pardons Board Frees Dar Crafton at Cheyenne Meeting

A full pardon was issued to Dar Crafton by the Wyoming Board of Pardons at a Cheyenne meeting held last Friday per a letter from Mr. Back. Crafton, convicted in Kemmerer District Court in spring 1817 of slaughter, had been released in 1916 after a hung jury. Crafton claimed the killing was accidental and has drawn sympathy due to the incident.

Woolgrowers Hold Twelfth Annual Convention in Kemmerer

The Lincoln County Woolgrower Association met January 3 and 4, 1919 in Kemmerer for its twelfth annual convention. Key actions aimed to protect growers from market flooding, aid predatory animal control with government cooperation, and hire stray-pickers to assist members. A dance and banquet followed, with numerous out of town guests listed including Milway, Wye, and several from Rock Springs, Utah, and California.
