Wartime Work For The Forest Service In War Conditions
The annual report explains how the forest service shifted to meet wartime needs in Washington and Madison. It notes rising receipts to 2,457,028.41 and a 633,487.70 increase from the previous year, with costs around 4 million dollars and a plan to close the gap via grazing privilege changes. Forester Henry S Graven serves with the American expeditionary forces in France. The service aided war departments, the Emergency Fleet Corporation, and defense councils, diverted peacetime programs, and pursued forest utilization for aircraft material, acetone production, and wood processing efficiency. The force centered in Washington and Madison as it supported military duties and national defense. Fire protection and timber utilization remained priorities amid new demands and recruitment for the Tenth Firingeers (Forest).
