Burton Mercantile Company Star Valley Store History
W W Burton & Sons Co began in a tent in August 1886 at Star Valley, evolving through a log cabin and frame buildings to its 1916 headquarters. Reorganized in 1908 as Burton Mercantile Co with A P F Burton as manager, it became Star Valley’s largest department store offering groceries, dry goods, shoes, hardware, furnishings, farm implements, and home essentials. Burton advocates railroad expansion and maintains strong local patronage after years serving residents.
