Accused Brothers Jender Released On Bonds

Charles and James Jender brothers charged with attempting to damage the Sanitary District power plant north of Joliet by inserting iron clippings into machinery were released on $500 bonds each. Bonds posted by Frank Jender and his wife of Lockport. They consult attorney Jas Flanders after release. preliminary hearing set before Police Magistrate Allen. Race morning, March 10.

Hartong Fined 50 Dollars for Gambling Joint

Van Dusen Hartong, former chief, was arrested on a warrant for maintaining and operating a gambling joint. In police court Magistrate Allen imposed a $50 fine plus costs. Hartong paid and was released. The clerk noted no more activity at the site, despite prior rumors.

Gas price cut in London 69 cents per 1600 feet

Consul General Wynne reports Gas Light & Coke Co lowers gas price to 69 cents per 1600 cubic feet from 71. London gas market is served by 11 companies. 46.4 billion cubic feet yearly to 1.1 million customers. The firm produces 2.444 million cubic feet annually, while smaller companies charge lower rates such as 55 and 49 cents.

Milk prices hold steady as Chicago price war widens

Nine Hour Day Law Takes Effect for Telegraphers

Fire damages house on Ottawa Street. firemen not needed

A blaze this morning at the house owned by Charles Schick at 637 South Ottawa Street caused minor damage. The fire was out when firefighters arrived and only a small amount of money was needed to cover repairs.
