Saloon Burglar Foiled by Bartender at 1043 North Collins
Anton Geranche sleeping above the saloon at 1043 North Collins Street heard a noise at 1 AM and confronted a man behind the bar. He fired three shots and kept the captive at gunpoint until Officer John Sievert arrived. The suspect, Ray Palmer, 23, a laborer, was taken to the police station after being subdued behind the bar by the bartender. A light side-door lock was forced to gain entry. Palmer, employed around Joliet, had only 15 cents and a deck of cards.

McLaughlin Faces Grand Jury Over State Contracts
