West Side School Site Purchase Talk Nab 6000 Offer

The school board eyed a tract known as Shooting Park grounds one half mile northeast of West Park for a new west side school. Owners Sharpshooters' association hold a tonight meeting as board committee seeks a price above their $6000 offer, with four and a quarter acres soon reduced to about three after street layouts. President Lyons says a building is not immediate but a site purchase now is prudent due to rapid westward growth toward Rockdale.

Knights of Pythias attend Decatur cornerstone ceremony

John F. Parsons and Frank Conklin representing Joliet lodge No. 531 and W. W. Smith and Sherman Patterson of Paul Revere lodge No. 871 returned from Decatur after attending the cornerstone laying of the Pythian Orphans Home. Pythians from across the state joined a Tuesday parade with about 5000 spectators. The home will cost $150000.

County petitions set for fall vote on proposed change

The county will require 20 percent of the total vote at the last general election to trigger submission of the proposed change to voters next fall. In the county, the voter base is between 17 000 and 18 000, and each petition printed includes an explanation of the change.

Subway Change Plans At Collins Street Crossing

A 12 foot high pedestrian subway will be built at Collins street crossing of the Michigan Central and Rock Island Railroads after James Newkirk of Kettle Stone Co received orders to raise the walls from 8 to 12 feet. The project, originally a foot subway, expands the city concession.

Wires to Aid Court House Acoustics

The court house acoustics are poor across multiple rooms. The Board of Supervisors was informed yesterday afternoon, and a buildings committee meeting is planned Friday at 1 30 to discuss remedies. Supervisor Brown supports overhead wires, a system claimed to have success in Chicago, for installation in the Board chamber.
